Facebook today announced they have begun introducing full encryption support to their messaging service, Messenger. With this move, you no longer have to start a new chat window with the encryption feature, or have to manually activate it in the settings. Instead, all chats on Messenger will automatically be E2E encrypted.
With this full encryption feature, only the sender and recipient of the message can read a message sent – and no one else can eavesdrop.
This simultaneously provides more privacy to users, and avoids messages sent being read by other parties, including Facebook itself.
Previously, WhatsApp had been offering full encryption features on their service for quite some time, and it would be quite interesting to see this feature extended to Facebook Messenger.
