Intel Meteor Lake Chip Launch Will Be Delayed To Late 2023 Due To Contract Cancellation With TSMC

Intel Meteor Lake is the 14th series of Intel processing chips and was previously expected to be offered starting around the third quarter of 2023. However, problems with TSMC are expected to cause the offer to be slightly delayed.

Reports say that this is because Intel has canceled the use of TSMC's services to build graphics processing chips for the CPU. Intel is one of TSMC's biggest customers for the use of the 3nm process that was previously being developed.

TSMC will normally develop new semiconductor chip building technology in line with the amount of large demand from other technology companies, and with the cancellation of this contract, it is expected that TSMC will have to find new customers to replace Intel.

Apple is still their biggest customer who will be using this 3nm process next year, but companies like AMD, MediaTek and Qualcomm are seen to only use 3nm build services by 2024.

Intel canceled the contract because they are expected to complete their Intel 4 factory soon, which will be used to develop both graphics chips and also Intel Meteor Lake processing chips.

There is a possibility that Intel will still use the services of TSMC as a backup, but this is a small possibility because the Intel 4 chip factory is one of Intel's biggest projects to sustain their component developers.
