Janet Jackson Song Found To Damage Computers And Hard Drives

Modern computers on the market are no longer equipped with HDD hard drives because SSD technology is faster and more importantly it is shock resistant. For those who still have a computer with a 5400 RPM HDD, Raymond Chen a researcher at Microsoft warned that a song from the famous singer Janet Jackson could damage their device.

The song Rhythm Nation from the 1989 album of the same name was found to vibrate at the same frequency with some 5400 RPM HDD models. This unique issue was noticed when a computer suddenly stopped working while a Rhythm Nation video was playing. More interestingly, it can also cause nearby computers to stop working.

To solve this issue, manufacturers now put patches on laptop audio software that filter out these natural frequencies from being played on the speakers. Who would have thought that classical music from an era before laptops became popular could cause issues now.
