The initiative to popularize the use of electric vehicles in Malaysia is still relatively slow with only this year various models of electric cars and fast charging systems started to be built on a large scale. Efforts need to be further improved in the near future and now the Minister of Environment and Water (KASA), Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the cabinet will use electric cars from 2023.
This is part of his Ministry's efforts to reduce pollution. The cost and amount of electric cars used is still unknown because it is still in the early stages, but he does not deny that the cost is high because the price of Malaysian electric vehicles is also high.
In addition, a pilot project will be started on Langkawi Island to encourage the use of electric motors. A total of 100 electric motorcycles can be owned by residents who replace them with existing fossil fuel motors. This is the initial phase to use electric vehicles in the main resorts of the country. Also announced by Tuan Ibrahim is the move to make Putrajaya a zero carbon city.
