Twitter is currently battling Elon Musk for ownership of the social media platform company, but did you know this isn't the first time it's been nearly taken over by a different entity?
In 2016, Disney was seen as intending to take over Twitter and use it as their content distribution platform. Their option at the time was to buy Twitter and develop a few additional features to allow users of the platform to access Disney IPs.
The second option, which they ultimately chose, was to spend $500 million and five years to develop their own streaming platform. The initial worry about this was that it would take a long time, and in the tech world, five years is a very long time.
At the recent Code Conference event, Bob Iger, Disney's CEO at the time said that Disney did not buy Twitter because of the bot issue that plagued the platform at the time, and also user behavior that was not in line with Disney's ideology that was in industry to develop exciting content.
Regarding the bot issue, Bob Iger said at the time, the bot problem was not a big deal, but it was still known as an issue that caused Disney to rethink whether it was worth investing money on the platform.
Because of this, Disney chose to develop their own streaming service and now comes with Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
