Low Demand For iPhone 14 In China Causes Scalpers To Take Losses

Every year the scalpers who buy goods wholesale and then sell them at a higher price cause consumers who really want to buy the product to have to bite their fingers. iPhone is one of the devices that are often sold by scalpers due to high demand. But this year the lack of response to the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus caused scalpers to bear losses.

In China scalpers sell iPhone 14 and 14 Plus on the side of the road to find customers. The combination of the unstable economy in China and the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models that consumers are looking for caused the device to be sold at a lower price than the market price to avoid losses.

According to a report by Oddity Central, the sale price of the device was reduced by up to RMB 1000 (~RM653) in Guangzhou with images of roadside sellers going viral on Chinese social media. Scalpers in China were previously able to raise prices up to RMB 6000 (~RM3900) because consumers in their country did not want to wait for the device to be officially sold and bought iPhones smuggled from Hong Kong.
