Age of Empires Coming to Android and iOS

Age of Empires (AoE) was a popular game in its time, maybe this game was almost never absent in every internet cafe in the 2000s. Now, the game will be available on Android and iOS mobile devices under the name Age of Empires Mobile.

This certainty coincides with the 25th anniversary of AoE, where World's Edge and Xbox Game Studios confirmed that AoE will move from PC to Android and iOS, as quoted by The Verge, Thursday (3/11/2022).

This move is Microsoft's latest attempt to penetrate the mobile gaming market, including an attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard. Previously, AoE had indeed been present on mobile devices through Age of Empires: Castle Siege and Age of Empires: World Domination in 2015.

However, these two games cannot be considered successful and their lifespan is relatively short. AoE: Castle Siege, a tower defense game, was shut down after four years, and AoE: World Domination, a real time strategy game, only lasted a year.

So far, not much information has been spread by Microsoft about Age of Empires Mobile, other than the initial trailer. It is unknown the gameplay, or the genre. But this game is still interesting to wait for, especially to see how the developers bring a complex strategy game like AoE to be played on mobile devices.

The Age of Empires (AoE) game with the Real Time Strategy (RTS) genre was first launched in 1999 and can be said to be an immediate success. This game does use an engine that is fairly light so it is very attractive to gamers at that time.

That success was maximized by the pembesutnya by issuing a number of extension games to the second sequel called AoE II. A number of game producers have also purchased licenses for engines used by AoE sequels to be embedded in their games, such as the Age of Mythology game and one of the sequels to the Star Wars game.

When the third AoE sequel was launched in 2005, the downfall of this game was already visible. The tight competition with other game manufacturers that issue similar games with more interesting gameplay makes AoE III less attractive.

As a result, the entire AoE sequel development team was pulled entirely by Microsoft to develop the Halo game. Practically, AoE games are practically dead since they were abandoned by Microsoft in 2005.
