Not long after introducing their AMD Zen 4 series of processing chips, AMD is now seen shifting the focus by launching their latest series of graphics cards which are based on their latest RDNA 3 graphics processing chips.
During the event that just took place, Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD showed a number of graphics cards that come out with quite impressive performance, especially if you are a die-hard AMD fan who wants to upgrade your computer components to something that can run games at 4K resolution nor 8K through the use of the latest DisplayPort 2.1 plug.
Today, AMD has launched two graphics card models based on the RDNA 3 processing chip, namely the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, which promises great gaming performance where it can drive displays with resolutions and refresh rates as high as 8K165FPS. and 4K480FPS.
In terms of processing chip construction, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and AMD Radeon RX 7900XT are their first two graphics cards to use the chiplet design that was previously shown on the AMD Ryzen and EPYC series of processing chips.
This graphics processing chip uses a combination of 5nm construction on the computing chip part and also 6nm for the memory cache and combines them in one package. This allows the graphics process to be moved at a faster rate and also faster power consumption to allow people to use these graphics cards without having to upgrade their power supply to a model with a high power value.
In terms of specifications, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card comes with 96 Compute Units and uses 24GB of GDDR6 memory, while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT comes with 84 Compute Units and 20GB of GDDR6 memory. These graphics cards also use two 8-pin PCIe power plugs to power them, and consume 355W of power for the RX 7900 XTX graphics card and 300W for the RX 7900 XT graphics card.
In terms of performance, AMD says that these graphics cards, specifically the RX 7900 XTX can run games at high resolutions and refresh rates. For Apex Legends for example, it can be moved at 1440p resolution with 300FPS refresh rate, 4K 300FPS for Overwatch 2, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla at 8K resolution and 96FPS refresh rate.
As for the Ray-tracing performance, Cyberpunk 2077 can be moved at 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 62FPS. In the meantime, AMD also confirmed that The Callisto Protocol will come with support for Ray-tracing through the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX and XT graphics cards when they are launched later.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX and AMD Radeon RX 7900XT graphics cards will go on sale on December 13 at a price of $999 for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and $899 for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card.
