Google Messages Tests Features Using Different Types of Emoji For Reactions

Google is focusing on the use of RCS as an alternative to SMS which is said to be outdated and insecure. RCS is also an alternative to iMessage for Android users. To make it easier for Android users to interact with iPhone users using iMessage, reaction support is also provided – where reactions sent via iMessage will be displayed on Google Messages or vice versa.

But on Google Messages, the use of reactions is limited to seven emojis only. Now, Google is seen to be testing the ability where users are free to choose whatever emoji they want to use. There will be an emoji icon with a “+” symbol and various emojis will be displayed.

This feature is similar to what was introduced on WhatsApp or Telegram. For now this feature is still limited to selected users and beta users. May be distributed from the server side and may be more widely distributed in the future.
