SnackVideo is a short video application developed by the Chinese company, Beijing Kuaishou Technology Plt, Ltd. The SnackVideo app was originally an app for creating and sharing GIF images. SnackVideo was founded in 2011, has been around for more than a decade.
An interesting fact, SnackVideo turned out to be a pioneer of short video platforms in China. Glancing at its competitor from ByteDance, TikTok, they were only founded in 2016.
In a special interview with us, Monday (7/11/2022), Derrick Ma Senior Vice President of Kuaishou Technology said that SnackVideo has been quite unique since its inception. In addition to short videos, SnackVideo is also quite early in carrying the live streaming feature.
"We made this short video 7 years ago because we tried to be different, if the others used to take photos or long videos, we have been different from the start. It doesn't matter, if we have almost the same platform then (competitors - ed), or look-alike creators. We don't think it's a big deal for us," said Ma.
Instead of focusing on competitors, SnackVideo chooses to continue to develop itself. As a technology company, SnackVideo strives to apply strong technology in building a platform.

"SnackVideo is AI-based, making it easier for people to access videos according to user interests. We also take advantage of machine learning, especially in SnackVideo there are hundreds of thousands of videos uploaded every day," he said.
From this artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, SnackVideo then gets signals and feedback that can read consumers. Thus, the resulting video will be more in line with the categories and preferences of each user.
In addition, in terms of data security, SnackVideo has also made a massive investment. Not only relying on technology, SnackVideo also tries to involve the role of human checkers to select content that is suitable for all ages.
"We have a lot of engineers in the data security department and we don't have any major issues with that, no major accidents (in terms of data security --ed). So, at the company, we really put data security as our top priority," Ma said.
"We have many teams to check content, and there is some content that we don't show for many reasons. We also give different labels to each video. We have thousands of people to check the content," he concluded.
