Google Wallet support was given in Malaysia last month where users can make non-cash payments with smartphones. In some selected countries, Wallet can also be used to store identity cards and digital driving licenses.
This new feature can only be used by users in some states in the United States first. This puts Wallet on par with Apple Wallet which earlier supported the same feature in the United States. The use of smartphones instead of digital ID cards has long been pursued by Android.
In Malaysia the government has plans to introduce a National Digital ID in the near future with Selangor also announcing similar support this week. When it is introduced later, surely it is ready to be supported on smart devices in Malaysia.
