As of today, the devices with the best zoomable camera support are Samsung devices with their Space Zoom technology – where they combine digital and optical zoom.
Now, LG Innotek wants to change all that by offering a new telephoto optical sensor that supports up to 9x optical zoom specifically for devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This sensor supports 4-9x optical zoom and they will work with Qualcomm to ensure software support is the best.
LG also developed a zoom actuator to ensure that the sensor can move quickly, is durable and consumes less battery power. This sensor also comes with OIS to ensure the use of the camera when zooming is stable. The camera sensor is also designed with a thin design so that the device can accommodate other important components and not be filled with only the camera sensor.
With this optical zoom sensor, LG also wants to be the number one camera module supplier in the telephoto optical zoom camera module category. In collaboration with Qualcomm, this camera sensor can also support auto-focus, auto-exposure, auto-white balance and more.
This sensor will be introduced at the CES 2023 event later, where LG intends that device manufacturers will also use their sensors on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices later.
