South Dakota Government Employees Banned From Using TikTok Over Security Risks

TikTok became the hot topic of conversation on Malaysian social media this week following the incident of racist videos uploaded by users after GE15. The MCMC immediately issued a statement reminding the public not to upload videos that could cause tension and strict action will be taken.

At the same time TikTok is also a topic of conversation in the United States with some politicians in that country who want the application banned due to security risks. In South Dakota, governor Kristi Noem has issued an executive order barring government employees from using TikTok on work devices.

Noem claims that user data can be collected with it and then shared with the Chinese Communist Party with it also being a platform used to manipulate the people of the United States.

Previously, TikTok had transferred user data from the United States to servers belonging to Oracle. They have also repeatedly denied claims that data is shared with the Chinese government. This is the main issue that led President Trump to order Bytedance to sell the TikTok business in the United States. This sale did not continue after Trump lost the election.
