IDC released their latest report on smartphone production for Q4 2022 and it brought a lot of bad news for global smartphone manufacturers. During 2022, as many as 1.205 billion smartphones were released compared to 1.359 billion in 2021 corresponding to a reduction of 11.3% year-on-year.
Samsung is still at the top with a 21.6% share followed by Apple (18.8%), Xiaomi (12.7%), Oppo (8.6%) and Vivo (8.2%). Although Samsung is still on top, it recorded a 4.1% reduction in production while Apple shrank 4%.
Vivo was the worst affected with a reduction of 22.8% followed by Oppo (22.7%) and Xiaomi (19.8%). All five phone manufacturing companies recorded a large reduction in production due to weak economic factors as well as the pandemic.
