India has overtaken China as the most populous country according to a Bloomberg report. Through data published by the World Population Review organization, India is estimated to have 1.417 billion people compared to China which has 1.412 billion people.
China's total population data is from the official source of China's National Bureau of Statistics which published their report yesterday. China recorded 10.41 million deaths compared to 9.56 million births throughout 2022. This is the first time in more than six decades that China has experienced a reduction in population.
India has yet to publish official population figures as the census has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. China has already ended the one-child-per-couple policy since 2016 but the country's birth rate is still not increasing as expected.
