Even though the iPhone 15 hasn't been released yet, leaks related to the iPhone 16 lineup, including the iPhone 16 Pro Max, have been circulating. That is the possibility of the presence of these advanced features in it.
According to a report by The Elec, the iPhone 16 Pro will use Face ID technology stored under the screen. This means that the iPhone no longer needs a notch or Dynamic Island to store the infrared sensor in Face ID.
This is because the TrueDepth camera for Face ID will "hide" behind the screen when not in use. As a result, the iPhone screen will look full without any interference from the notch or the like.
Unfortunately according to the report, the notch will still be on the iPhone 16 Pro. Not to save the Face ID sensor, but to save the front camera. But of course the size of the notch will be smaller because it is only used to store the front camera.
Later Apple will indeed store this front camera under the screen, but this will only happen to the next generation of iPhones, we were quoted as saying from Macrumors, Monday (16/1/2023).
Previously, DSCC analyst Ross Young had revealed the iPhone roadmap for May 2022. In his tweets on Twitter, Young predicts that the iPhone 16 will still use the Dynamic Island notch in the form of pills and spheres, while the iPhone 16 Pro will use punch holes and Face ID stored under the screen.
Meanwhile for Face ID and the front camera stored under the screen, according to Young, this will only happen on the iPhone 18 Pro which -- should -- be released in 2026. According to him, this under-screen camera takes a long time to implement due to the high level of technical difficulty, and component suppliers take a long time to meet the camera quality requirements set by Apple.
Young's analysis makes sense, because a number of manufacturers such as ZTE and Samsung have already implemented under-screen camera technology. However, the image quality produced by this camera is not optimal because the camera lens is blocked by the screen.
