A tourist fell because he was about to take a selfie while the train was moving. Unfortunately, his life could not be saved.
Patrick Ward fell to the ground 10m after opening the carriage door to take a selfie on a World War II era "death train" in Kanchanaburi province, western Thailand on the morning of December 27.
According to The Straits Times, Ward was traveling with a tour guide-led group from the River Kwai bridge. Ward and company then took a train to see the Death Railway.
During the journey, witnesses claim that the train slowed down in a scenic spot. Ward then opened the door of the moving carriage to take a selfie with the view outside.
However, while trying to take the picture, the 45-year-old man slipped on a door step and fell to his death on the ground under the tracks at Krasae Cave in Sai Yok district.
Other tourists in the area filmed the surroundings and then caught Ward falling backwards from the train.
Sai Yok Police Station and a rescue team rushed to where Ward fell. According to police, Ward was barely breathing when rescuers found him.
His right arm and neck were broken. Paramedics spent half an hour trying to save Ward to no avail.
