Twitter is auctioning hundreds of furniture and decorations that adorn its headquarters in San Francisco, United States. Included is a giant, 1-metre tall statue of the Twitter logo.
The auction of the 631 items was carried out by Heritage Global Partners. These items are auctioned for anywhere from USD 25 to USD 50, but there are some unique items that are bid up to thousands of dollars.
Of the many pieces of furniture being auctioned, there are kitchen equipment such as a pizza oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, to a rotisserie. There is also the usual office furniture such as a Herman Miller desk, hundreds of chairs and video conferencing equipment.
There are, however, a few unique items that catch the eye, including a giant blue statue of the Twitter logo. The one-meter-tall statue has been bid for USD 20,000.
There is also a giant neon sign in the shape of the Twitter logo that reaches 3 meters high. Heritage Global Partners put a starting price of USD 50 for the neon sign, but now the bid price has skyrocketed to USD 20,000.
Hundreds of these pieces of furniture came from Twitter's headquarters located at 1355 Market Street, San Francisco, California. The sale of these items appears to be part of the massive savings being made by Twitter's new owner Elon Musk.
After buying Twitter for $44 billion last October, Musk said the social media company lost revenue after losing several major advertisers. He also warned that Twitter could go bankrupt.
To cut costs, Twitter under the leadership of Musk has laid off thousands of employees. Musk also decided not to pay the rent for the building he occupied as Twitter offices in several countries.
Musk also slashed a number of benefits for Twitter employees, including free meals at the office. The former richest man in the world says Twitter spends $13 million a year providing free food.
