Fans of HBO's The Last of US film, made a pretty wild theory. They stated that the Cordyceps fungus was spread through contaminated flour.
This statement was originally made by a Reddit forum user, anagnost. He explained one by one the reasons why the plague came from flour.
Quoting an explanation from an anagnost on Reddit, Thursday (26/1/2023), he suspects that too many coincidences have arisen, so that the main character does not eat flour-based foods. But before continuing, most likely what is presented below will be a spoiler.
Wild Audience Theory of The Last of Us
It seems that netizens are really good at making matches between one thing and another. Then they linked them along a common line, which would make sense when all the evidence was gathered.
This is proven by the film The Last of Us, which is currently popular on HBO. Many of the fans create a conspiracy theory, and it's running wild on the internet.
As stated earlier, if it comes from an anagnost post on Reddit. The first match that was mentioned, namely when Sarah's daughter from Joel did not have flour to make pancakes for their breakfast in the morning.
Then the second came from Joel and Sarah's refusal, when their neighbors offered biscuits. In this scene, a middle-aged man can be seen feeding the old women with these biscuits.
So coincidentally at night, the grandmother turned into a zombie. He killed the middle-aged man and a woman who took care of the grandmother named Adler.
Then it was discovered that Joel was on an Atkins diet, which controlled the intake of carbohydrates that entered the body. The next match comes from the scene of Sarah being at the Adler family's house, and not eating the cookies the host made.
Even when they came home and were supplied with cookies by Adler, Sarah and Joel didn't enjoy them at home either. For those who have watched episode one, that film begins with the protagonist's birthday celebration.
But by coincidence, Joel forgot to buy himself a birthday cake. Even though at breakfast he had promised his son to buy it after work.
Suspicions of mold spreading through flour were also shown in HBO's The Last of Us Episode two. Here shows flashback, how the zombie threat started.
The information came from a conversation between Christine Hakim as Ratna, Professor of Mycology at the University of Indonesia, and actor Yayu AW Unru, a TNI general. Initially, Ratna was asked to examine the victim who had been infected.
However, when Ratna asked where the root of the problem was, Yayu said that it had taken place in the flour and grain factories. That scene made netizens even more convinced that this fungus was originally spread through flour.
