A woman from Germany named Sharaban K (23) killed beauty blogger Khadidja O (23) who she felt looked like her. Previously, Sharaban, with malicious intent, sought and contacted people who were similar to himself via direct messages on Instagram.
When his body was found, the police traced the vehicle registration certificate and headed to the Sharaban K family. Considering that the body had been 'damaged' beforehand so that it was difficult to identify, investigators assumed that he was indeed the victim.
However, a subsequent autopsy report revealed that the real victim was Khadidja O. This case prompted further investigation and was dubbed the 'doppelganger murder' by the German media.
Launch NY Post, Saturday (4/2/2023) police charged Sharaban K. with murder. Prosecutors said Sharaban was caught scrolling through Instagram in an attempt to find a victim who matched his physical appearance.
"It has been confirmed that the accused had contacted several women via Instagram prior to executing who looked like him," Attorney General Veronika Grieser told local media.
"It can be suspected that the suspect wanted to hide, because of an internal dispute with his family, and faked his own death," he continued.
According to investigators, Sharaban K. connected to beauty blogger Khadidja O. through Instagram since last summer. He purportedly lured the victim into a meeting by offering him a set of beauty products.
On the day of the crime, Sharaban K. told his parents that he was going to visit his ex-husband in Munich. Instead, he and his girlfriend Sheqir K. were actually picking up Khadidja O. in a Mercedes.
At some point, investigators believe the pair turned into the woods where the poor woman was stabbed. The injuries on his face were so severe that he was unrecognizable.
Sharaban K. was eventually tracked down and arrested. Recently, he has been formally charged with murder and faces life in prison if convicted of the gruesome crime. Sheqir K. was also charged with being an accomplice and also faces jail time.
