Transport Minister, Anthony Loke has now stated that users will be able to use credit or debit cards to pay for their public transport. He has instructed agencies such as KTM and Prasarana to use an open payment system for their services.
Today, users can only pay using tokens or Touch n Go cards on public transport services. With this change, it will give users more options in making payments for transportation.
Anthony Loke said that in the future, users who ride buses or trains can pay using credit or debit cards. Previously, such a system had been tested on the LRT, but was not introduced to the public.
No date has been given at this time. Anthony Loke also emphasized which currently only focuses on payments involving public transport only, and not yet for highways – because it is subject to LLM in adapting an open payment system.
