Apple Accused Of Working With US Intelligence Agency To Spy On iPhone Users In Russia

The Russian intelligence agency FSB issued a statement claiming that Apple had collaborated with the American intelligence agency NSA to spy on Russians using iPhones in their country. The backdoor vulnerability was used by the NSA to also spy on iPhones belonging to diplomats of NATO members, China, Syria and Israel, according to the FSB.

Apple has issued a brief statement refuting the FSB's allegations. They said "we have never worked with any government to install a backdoor on any Apple product and will not do so in the future".

This FSB allegation may be seen as the first step that will lead to Apple devices being banned in Russia. India had already used this reason to ban Chinese products two years ago after the two countries clashed on the Himalayan border. The irony is that the United States also used the same excuse to ban Huawei, ZTE and DJI products from being used in their country for the same reason.
