Sonos this year befell unexpected misfortune. Their introduction of a new generation of apps to control products like Sonos Ace and Sonos Arc Ultra does not provide full access and also has many bugs. Although this is already in the pipeline to be fixed, Sonos' empty promises have people starting to feel worried and frustrated. Recently, Sonos seems to have found a partner for their smart television project and it's suspicious.
Sonos will reportedly come with a TV box to make existing regular televisions or smart televisions run the Sonos operating system. This operating system is said to be friendly with Sonos products and will also offer a better entertainment experience. The partner chosen by Sonos is The Trade Desk which is a digital advertising business company and they have just launched their own Ventura television operating system which may be the basis of the Sonos TV operating system.
The Trade Desk is said to have agreed to build the basic operating system and manage application distribution and advertising business. While Sonos will personally design the TV box and design their operating system interface. According to The Trade Desk, Ventura will focus on offering cross-platform content (Apple TV, Google TV, Fire TV are all already there) with less advertising. In addition, it will also provide a local hub to manage subscriptions (Apple and Prime are also available).
Ventura also promises that advertisers will be able to enjoy high returns and promises to be able to offer a low-cost but fair advertising platform for all. With the history of Sonos now, I can't imagine what Sonos will provide on their operating system that is different from the offerings of Google TV, Apple TV, Tizen OS, LG webOS and others. Hopefully what Sonos wants to introduce is truly unique and innovative, if not criticism awaits once again. what do you say
