The trade war between the US and China appears to be getting worse, as it has been reported that the US government, through the US Chamber of Commerce, will introduce new trade restrictions on 200 Chinese semiconductor chipmakers.
This includes a ban on exporting selected technology components and finished products to technology development companies in China. American companies such as AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, which are known for their powerful processing chip offerings, especially in the AI sector, are generally prohibited from selling their latest components or products to technology companies in the country.
Meanwhile, it should also be noted that China is currently developing its own semiconductor chip production technology, although many reports say that they will face difficulties in producing semiconductor chips below 7nm due to the lack of EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) lithography equipment required to etch the patterns needed to build a semiconductor chip.
In addition to these latest trade restrictions, the US government has also determined that High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) chip components will also be included in the list of components that are not allowed to be traded to technology companies in China.
This is seen as another way to block the Chinese government's progress in developing their own artificial intelligence technology, which the US government has long said is a threat to their citizens.
