Recently, we reported that Apple is expected to move iPhone production for the US market to India to avoid the 145 percent tariff on imports from China.
Now, it has been reported that Apple has plans to move iPhone production for the US market back to the US. This is in line with the company’s $500 billion investment to build its manufacturing facilities and technology in California.
This was said by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick who also said that Apple will not only design its iPhones in California, but will also build them there.
Howard Lutnick further said that Tim Cook told him that Apple is waiting for “robotic arms” that can be used to assemble its devices. Apple is expected to begin the process of building its own device manufacturing factory once these robotic arms arrive in the country.
This is quite interesting because Lutnick also said that Apple will hire workers to operate these machines, and not to do manual work like turning screws and attaching components to the phone frame.
This is all just speculation for now because Tim Cook has not issued any official statement regarding the transfer of iPhone production to the United States at this time.
