Starting with two-dimensional photos to video content, Instagram’s evolution as a social media platform has changed a lot since 2010. The next iteration is supporting the display of photos in spatial 3D format when Instagram is opened in the Meta Quest headset.
Instagram and Reality Labs began testing this week with these 3D photos generated entirely using artificial intelligence (AI) even though the original photos were in 2D format. Because this is still a test feature, it will be given randomly to Quest users. With support for 3D photos, Instagram wants to provide a more natural-looking and fun experience for users.
This 3D photo display feature is similar to what Apple’s Vision Pro offers. Vision Pro can display spatial 3D photos taken with the iPhone 16 Pro and also convert them from 2D images in a user’s Photos gallery.
