LG to End Support for All Smartphones Starting June 30

LG pulled out of the smartphone and tablet market in 2021 after it could no longer compete with other manufacturers. After nearly four years, LG has now announced that it will stop supporting updates and software for existing mobile devices starting June 30, 2025.

The services that will be terminated on that date are OTA software updates, the Update Center application and the LG Bridge used in conjunction with a PC. All personal data that has been collected will also be disposed of immediately after all services are terminated. LG device owners are advised to perform their final update before June 30

The business has been closed because LG can no longer afford to lose money. The business tried to be sold to Volkswagen and VinGroup JSC of Vietnam but an agreement failed to be reached. The announcement came after LG showed off the concept of a rollable screen smartphone called the LG Rollable. Although the phone was never launched, its technology was later used in the Signature OLED R smart TV.
