MediaTek has confirmed the development of a 2nm chip that is expected to be ready for production in September 2025. The announcement was made during the COMPUTEX 2025 keynote, and based on TSMC's semiconductor manufacturing schedule, large-scale production of the N2 technology is expected to begin in the second half of 2026. With that, the launch of the Dimensity 9600 chip is likely to happen by the end of the year.
The transition to 2nm technology is expected to make chips faster and more energy-efficient, especially for high-end smartphones. Apple is usually the first to adopt new chip technologies, but it is still unclear whether they will switch to N2 or stick with N3P. If Apple delays the use of N2, then MediaTek may be the first company to launch a 2nm chip in the smartphone market.
For now, there are no details about the chip, and it is unlikely that there will be any revelations in the near future as its launch is still more than a year away.
