Micron 9650 SSD Is the Latest PCIe 6.0 Storage With 30.25GB/s Data Transfer Speed

The computing industry is now seen to be taking advantage of PCIe 5.0 SSD storage for daily use, regardless of the consumer segment or the industrial sector. SSD storage that uses this standard will typically show data transfer speeds of around 13-14GB/s.

Recently, Micron, a semiconductor chip maker and storage company, has shown off their first PCIe 6.0 storage, the Micron 9650 SSD. PCIe 6.0 storage has not yet been certified by PCIe, and technically, there are still no motherboards that support this connection.

Through what was reported by Tom’s Hardware, this storage, which was introduced since last year, has been tested by Astera Labs, a company that develops equipment for AI technology and data centers, showing data transfer rates of around 30.25GB/s, when Micron said that they showed it at speeds of around 26GB/s.

At Computex, Astera Labs was seen testing some of their AI storage components, such as their Scorpio PCIe 6.0 4×16 circuit board. The advantage of this switch is seen as helping AI companies reduce latency between GPUs and storage, as it allows AI GPUs to interact with storage without having to go through the CPU.

The PCI-SIG has not yet confirmed the specifications for this connection, and it is currently unknown when the storage will be introduced to the market.
