Since A New Hope hit the silver screen nearly 50 years ago, many Star Wars fans have longed for a robot servant like R2D2. With the advancement of current robotics technology, the dream has become a reality after Disney began offering the G1T4-M1N1 to those interested.
The robot was developed by Piaggio and is equipped with two wheels with a body. The G1T4-M1N1 can accommodate up to 9 kilograms of cargo. According to Disney, the robot will play sounds like the droid in the Star Wars movie, can stream favorite music and the ability to follow the owner from behind. Each robot weighs 12.7 kilograms, can operate for up to 7 hours and moves at a maximum speed of almost 10 km/h.
The G1T4-M1N1 is actually just a Piaggio Gitamini that was launched in 2021 but with special Star Wars-themed body stickers. Each G1T4-M1N1 is sold for $2875 (~RM 12,082), which is slightly more expensive than the original robot which is sold for $2475 (~RM 10,401).
