Apple today held its annual WWDC event, sharing a number of developments involving software offerings and operating systems that will power its devices. With this move, various developers can be prepared with their respective offerings when the new operating system is introduced.
Starting this year, Apple has now switched to using version numbers for operating systems, from using generation numbers, it now uses year-based numbers. With this move, since the upcoming operating system is targeted for the coming year, iOS will use the iOS 26 operating system.
The same was followed for iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and also visionOS 26.
The use of numbers is also aligned across all operating systems and devices, making it easier for users to know which version is being used.
