Grab EV Service From KLIA Terminal 1 Officially Launched

Last week, we reported that Grab Malaysia had begun testing its Grab EV ride-hailing service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 1) using a fleet of BYD M6 EV vehicles for families or small groups returning from overseas who want to try out EV transportation.

Officiated by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the EV transportation service was developed through a collaboration between several parties, including Grab, BYD Sime Motors, Yinson GreenTech, and Power-Up Tech (P.UP) and is part of the government’s plan to accelerate the wider adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia.

We asked Grab about who can register to drive for the service, and were told that for now, they will be using BYD M6 vehicles through a partnership with BYD Sime Darby first. In the future, Grab Malaysia said that they will extend the service to other electric vehicle drivers.

Last week, the arrival of Grab EV service was teased, where Grab offers EV ride-hailing services from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to any location in the Klang Valley.

This Grab EV option is already integrated into the Grab Car feature when you select KLIA as your departure location, similar to what we saw when they tested the feature last week.

Now, it can be seen that the service has been activated at the airport, and can be accessed via the Grab app, as previously revealed by Soya Cincau. The EV ride-hailing service appears to be using BYD M6 electric vehicles based on the listing on the app itself, suitable if you are with a family or a group of 4-5 people.

As we said earlier, for the Grab EV service, you can board it on level three (arrivals) at gate four which has been designated as a fixed location specifically for this service. Grab has also introduced an EV waiting area near the gate for people to wait for their EVs to arrive.
