Instagram today started supporting 3:4 ratio images. This was announced by Adam Mosseri himself via Threads. By default, all photos taken using a phone camera have a 3:4 ratio when taken vertically. Meanwhile, Instagram has since the beginning supported a 1:1 ratio because it follows the Polaroid film ratio before later supporting 16:9 and 4:3 ratios.
Previously, when vertical photos were uploaded, the original image was cropped to fit into the frame with a 4:5 ratio. This affected the original composition of the photo taken. This change will allow 3:4 photos to be uploaded without having to be edited first. This feature is already available today on the Android and iOS apps in Malaysia.
