Last year, Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer hinted at a mobile Xbox launch after seeing the positive response to Steamdeck, ROG Ally, and other Windows-based consoles. But today, Windows Central reports that development on the mobile Xbox has been put on hold for a while.
This is to focus on making sure Windows 11 runs better on current and future consoles. Microsoft abruptly changed course a week after SteamOS 3.7.8 was released to support consoles other than SteamDeck, which was seen as a threat to Windows 11.
While the Xbox mobile was temporarily put on hold, Project Kennan, which is being developed with ASUS, is still ongoing. It is likely that Kenna will launch by the end of this year with support for Xbox and more PC games than some of the Windows 11 consoles that have been launched before.
