Google Photos Turns 10 Today – Storing Over 9 Trillion Photos and Videos

Google Photos celebrates its 10th anniversary today and to celebrate this milestone, several new features have been introduced to the app such as AI editing, a new interface and Google Gemini support. An interesting fact supported by Google is that Photos now stores over 9 trillion photos and videos and has 1.5 billion monthly active users since its launch.

Photos now has new photo editing features with Reimagine and Auto frame which were previously exclusive to Pixel 9 devices expanded to more devices. Albums in Photos can now also be shared using QR codes. In the Collections tab, photos will be grouped by location with interactive maps.

The search function has also been updated with it being able to be done using plain language. With Gemini support, questions such as asking Photos to list locations visited can be done without having to do it manually.

In addition, the Memories feature, automatic sharing of new photos with relatives and personalization of photo grids are also provided. These announced features will be received on Android devices starting next month and on iPhone by the end of 2025.
