Meta Tried to Acquire Perplexity AI Before Investing in Scale AI

Meta under Mark Zuckerberg this year is ready to invest and focus on the artificial intelligence arena. A few weeks ago, Meta also invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, while also bringing in the former CEO of Scale AI to also lead the development of Meta AI.

Recently, there were reports that before investing in Scale AI, Meta also tried to acquire the popular artificial intelligence company, Perplexity AI.

Discussions with Perplexity AI appeared to be unsuccessful, causing both parties to not continue discussions regarding it. This also shows that Mark Zuckerberg is now trying to get various talents in the artificial intelligence arena to join them in the development of Meta AI.

Previously, OpenAI also said that Meta had tried to get OpenAI talents and employees with a bonus offer of up to $100 million.

Lately, Meta has been seen to face some challenges in introducing new models, unlike other competitors such as Google and OpenAI. However, one of the advantages of Meta is access to users, where Meta AI is integrated through the Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger applications. Not only that, it is also integrated into Meta smart glasses. Currently, Meta AI is still not offered in Malaysia, although the intention for it has been announced since the end of 2024.
