Microsoft Launches Mu – Small Language Model for Copilot+ PC AI Settings Feature

A few weeks ago Microsoft announced an artificial intelligence (AI) feature in the “Settings” settings of the Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon X chips. Through this feature, users can ask questions about computer settings using ordinary language. For example, “how to change the size of the mouse cursor”. Today Microsoft launched Mu’s small language model (SLM) which uses the artificial intelligence agent that is the backbone of this feature.

Mu is built on the experience gained from developing Phi Silica earlier. It runs directly on the Copilot+ PC, allowing it to be used without an internet connection. Processing capacity is up to 100 tokens per second using the processor chip’s NPU. With training, Mu can answer questions in as little as 500 ms.

Microsoft will continue to update Mu with feedback from Windows Insiders who are currently testing this feature before the final version of this feature is provided to all Copilot+ PCs in the future.
