TikTok Sale Date Extended for Another 90 Days by Trump

Biden says go, Trump says come. This is the situation TikTok has faced since January 2025 when their service was originally banned from the United States for security reasons. The company's sale period was then postponed by 75 days by President Trump with several local companies interested in buying the platform with over 120 million monthly active users in the United States.

Today the White House confirmed that President Trump will once again extend this period for another 90 days. This is to ensure that the social media platform can still be used in the United States while fulfilling Trump's election promise not to ban it. The new executive order will be issued this week according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt

The extension issued by Trump three months ago will end on June 19. The sale of TikTok has been used as a pawn in trade talks between the United States and China. A few months ago, the two countries agreed to reduce bilateral import tariffs by 115%. However, this agreement is also only for 90 days with Trump wanting to meet with President Xi for a long-term trade agreement.
