Trump Says He Has Found the Right Buyer for TikTok – Requires Chinese Approval

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said in an interview today that he has found the right buyer for the TikTok app. Although he did not specify who, Donald Trump said it was a group of “rich people”, and that an announcement is expected in two weeks.

However, this still requires Chinese approval.

Previously, the United States has forced TikTok to sell its operations in the country, fearing that user personal data would be misused. Although Bytedance and TikTok have repeatedly said that the servers are outside of China, and that it operates independently without Chinese interference, the United States is still pressing for a sale.

A special law was also passed in the country that forces TikTok to sell its operations or cease operations in the country. However, Donald Trump has postponed its enforcement three times, with the latest date set for all matters to be resolved by September 17, 2025.

To date, neither ByteDance nor the Chinese government have issued any official statements regarding this. It is not yet known whether China will agree to sell TikTok's operations in the United States.
