WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to scan documents directly using their phone's camera. This feature is already available for iOS users and is currently in the development process for Android devices. With this function, sharing documents becomes easier by simply capturing and sending them without having to use a third-party application.
WhatsApp offers two modes for this document scanning feature, namely manual or automatic. In manual mode, users can determine the appropriate conditions for taking a picture to ensure that the document is positioned correctly before scanning. Meanwhile, automatic mode allows the camera to intelligently identify the document, and take a picture without requiring any additional action from the user.
After the document is scanned, WhatsApp will automatically convert it into PDF format to make the file easy to share. All this process is done directly through the device using the Android API without relying on external services. In addition, documents sent via WhatsApp will be protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to ensure that the content can only be accessed by the parties involved in the conversation.
This feature is still in development and is expected to be launched in an upcoming WhatsApp update.
