Google Photos users will soon be able to turn static photos into videos with an update to the Create feature right from within the app. Google says that with this new tab, photos are transformed into 6-second videos using the Veo 2 model. This is the AI model one generation behind the latest version of Veo 3. So photos can simply be turned into videos without audio.
Also accessible through the Create tab is a new Remix feature. Original photos can be transformed into pencil sketches, watercolors, anime styles and more. This is a similar feature previously offered through Pixel Studio and is the same as those found in Honor AI and Galaxy AI. All these AI-generated photos and videos can then be accessed again in the Create tab.
All videos and photos generated will have a SynthID watermark so that others can see that they have been altered from the original image. At this point, Google is not saying what the limit is for the number of creations users can make. This feature will be available to users in the United States first starting in August on Android and iOS devices.
