In May, we reported that Warner Brothers-Discovery would rebrand their Max video streaming platform back to HBO Max. They also confirmed that their streaming and television businesses would be separated into two parts after internal discussions.
Most recently, they confirmed that Max would be rebranded as HBO Max starting July 9, 2025 US time. The rebranding to HBO Max is likely due to a number of factors.
Variety said that one of the main reasons was to allow the HBO Max name to be used at the Emmy Awards, which will begin the nominations process on July 15. Another reason was to allow Warner Bros-Discovery to rebrand the HBO brand, now that their streaming service is so popular that it now operates in 69 countries around the world, including Malaysia.
The HBO Max streaming platform was introduced in 2020, and was rebranded as Max in 2023. The service is set to arrive in the Malaysian market in mid-November 2024, replacing another HBO streaming service, HBO Go.
