After being teased and shown at several showrooms nationwide, the Proton X50 with a new look was finally officially launched yesterday. The Proton X50 with a new look underwent changes not only on the exterior but also in the cabin which now looks more in line with current tastes and the X70 and X90 models.
The biggest change can be seen at the front with smaller cat-like lights making it look more sporty complete with a DRL system. The grille is now larger and dominates the entire front of the vehicle. Compared to the previous model, the new X50 looks less aggressive. Perhaps this will attract the attention of family owners.
The engine is matched to the 1.5L TD i-GT four-cylinder with 178 HP and 290 Nm of torque. This replaces the three-cylinder engine on the previous model. Inside, two LCD screens are used. One is 14.6″ for controlling the infotainment system and air conditioning. A secondary 8.8″ screen is also provided to the driver to display driving information.
Aisyah’s virtual assistant can be summoned using Bahasa Malaysia for voice-only control. Android Auto and Apple Car Play systems are also officially supported. Two wireless charging pads are placed on the center console. For this reason, the gear knob that was previously in the center has been changed to the right of the steering wheel.
From a safety perspective, it is equipped with rear radar (RSRS), parking assistance, 360° HD camera, and a Level 2 ADAS system. Executive mode is offered with 17″ tires while Premium and Flagship are with 18″ tires. The two more expensive models also have an automatic boot at the rear, and a more premium two-tone interior finish. The selling price in Malaysia is as follows.
X50 1.5TD Executive – RM89,800
X50 1.5TD Premium – RM101,800
X50 1.5TD Flagship – RM113,800
