The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has made improvements to the digital visa application system for foreigners through the launch of MyVISA 2.0, which is scheduled to be operational on 1 August. This new system is the latest version of the previous platform introduced in December 2021 and was developed as a digital initiative to offer a more efficient visa application experience.
According to JIM, MyVISA 2.0 uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to facilitate the visa application process completely online without the need to attend a physical office. Among the key technological features introduced include Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for automatic document scanning, real-time notifications, smart automation, virtual interviews and an eVisa tracking and approval system equipped with a QR code.
To increase convenience for applicants, a special application is also provided to enable application management to be done in person. Through this system, applicants no longer need to attend a Malaysian Representative Office abroad for the purpose of applying for a visa. With this, it is hoped that the quality of public services can be improved, thus making immigration management better.
