The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has now shared that the 5G coverage rate for populated areas in Malaysia has reached 82.4%. This new increase is quite slow compared to the previous introduction phase.
In January 2024, the 5G coverage rate in Malaysia had already exceeded 80%, and since then the expansion of the coverage rate has been moving slowly. This 82.4% figure was shared by the Deputy Minister of Communications in February 2025. Now, through the latest sharing by MCMC, it is seen that the figure has not budged. Moving forward, it is expected to continue to increase slowly, not to mention with new coverage areas whose locations may be more challenging for infrastructure development.
Previously, in February 2025, the Deputy Minister of Communications had said that the 5G usage rate had increased compared to before, where 53.35% of users were using the 5G network.
Apart from DNB, U Mobile is also developing 5G networks in both countries, and previously it was targeted to reach a coverage rate of 80% around 2026.
