Amazon Lays Off 100 Wondery Employees But Denies Studio Will Close

Amazon is laying off 100 employees at podcast company Wondery, according to a Bloomberg report as part of a restructuring effort. Wondery, which Amazon acquired five years ago, is being split into two. The narrative podcast team will be merged with Audible while a new team will develop new podcast shows.

The Wondery restructuring comes as the podcasting landscape shifts to video formats, rather than audio-only. Despite the layoffs, Amazon denied that Wondery’s studio will be closed in a statement to Techcrunch.

This is good news for fans of Wondery’s podcasts, as at least it won’t suffer the same fate as DPReview, which was shut down a few years after Amazon acquired it.
