It must be admitted that Apple is the latest technology company to enter the arena of artificial intelligence (AI) development. In several previously published reports, Apple management initially saw AI as just a temporary trend but with the explosion of investment and amazing AI models now it is clear that they are as wrong as Steve Ballmer laughed at the iPhone eighteen years ago.
According to a Bloomberg report, Tim Cook recently held a meeting with Apple’s global executives in Cupertino. In the meeting, he said “the AI revolution is as big or bigger than the internet”. He also added that Apple needs to do something in AI development and they will do it because it is theirs to grab.
Cook was previously quoted as saying that Apple is not against buying AI companies to drive the development of Apple Intelligence which has not been going well since its introduction last year. The AI-advertised iPhone 16 series has not yet arrived and is now believed to only be given to consumers next year.
Worse still, Apple lost several AI researchers and model development to Meta Superintelligence Labs which is offering hundreds of millions in rewards to those who accept Mark Zuckerberg’s offer.
Apple is currently at a crossroads because the majority of Apple users say they do not want any AI features, but at the same time, technology trends show that AI has already changed the current world.
