The Dojo supercomputer was developed by Tesla to train its Full Self Driving (FSD) system. Bloomberg reported today that the team that developed Dojo has been disbanded after a number of employees left the company to form their own companies, according to a Bloomberg report.
Dojo team leader Peter Bannon is leaving Tesla with 20 other former employees to form a new company called Density AI. DensityAI is a startup that aims to build chips, hardware and software for robotic data centers. Their technology could also be used by AI agents and the automotive industry. The remaining Dojo employees who remain with the company have been transferred to other teams within Tesla
Although Dojo has been disbanded, this does not mean that Tesla’s FSD development team is now in limbo. In addition to Dojo, Tesla also has the Cortex supercomputer, which Elon said will not only train its self-driving system but also its Optimus robotics system. Cortex 1.0 has been operational since last year, with the more capable Cortex 2.0 being built next door to the Giga Texas factory. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
