Quoting a statement from the Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, the internet coverage rate in populated areas in Malaysia has reached 98.82% as of the end of July 2025. This reflects significant progress in the government's efforts to expand digital access to the people nationwide.
Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has completed 74,489 transmitter sites to support the implementation of the 5G network, thus providing 82.4% coverage in populated areas. The total number of 5G network subscriptions now exceeds 28 million users with a mobile broadband penetration rate of 82.7% per 100 residents.
In rural areas such as Sungai Burong, Sekinchan and Permatang Gahmi Berjaya, the internet and communication coverage rate has reached 99.75%. Sungai Besar recorded the highest coverage rate of 99.9%. The second 5G network operated by U Mobile has also started operating since 14 July 2025. A total of 1232 sites have been upgraded to support the implementation of 5G coverage through the network.
The government will continue to implement various initiatives to expand digital access to the people, especially in rural and suburban areas in line with efforts to strengthen the country's communications infrastructure.
