Meta to Launch Hypernova MR Smart Glasses as Early as Next Month

Meta will launch its Hypernova smart glasses as early as September, according to a Bloomberg report. The Hypernova comes with a screen built into the glass surface with mixed reality (MR) support, which sets it apart from the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN. According to the same report, the Hypernova will be sold for $800 a pair.

The Hypernova design was previously leaked and was developed under the name Meta Celeste. It comes with an electromyography (EMG) wristband that allows control with just your mind as it reads signals sent by the brain.

Two cameras are placed on the sides of the frame with a module for a waveguide device that projects images onto the glasses for the MR experience also placed on the temple of the glasses.

With its launch next month, Meta wants to ensure that it can lead the market for smart glasses with AI capabilities. Google, Samsung and Apple are all three launching their smart glasses. Google and Samsung will only launch Android XR smart glasses early next year.
